Rowan Copy is a small, focused writing studio based in Howard County, Maryland. The work draws on years of running real small businesses — drafting actual policies, customer waivers, hiring documents, and website copy from scratch. This isn't writing from the outside looking in.
Rowan Copy is run by Landen Rowan, an independent writer based in Howard County, Maryland. The studio works with small local businesses across Maryland and remote clients across the country — landscapers, contractors, trainers, tutors, cleaners, and dozens of similar small operations who know their writing online could be sharper.
Before this, I spent years building real businesses — handling everything from website copy and customer waivers to contractor agreements and employee handbooks. That perspective shows up in every project I take on. I know what it's like to be the small business owner staring at a blank page, trying to figure out how to describe what you do without sounding like everyone else.
Most copywriting feels like it was written for the writer. The fancy words, the clever turns of phrase, the metaphors. My work goes the other direction: it's written for the customer who has thirty seconds to decide whether to call you, book you, or close the tab.
Local-friendly pricing. Fast turnaround. Writing that sounds like a real human business owner wrote it — because it was written by one, for another.
The way I run this studio is shaped by what I wish more freelancers did when I was the one hiring them. These aren't marketing claims — they're how every project actually works.
You'll never get a surprise invoice. Every project has a fixed price quoted before work starts, with 50% upfront and the balance due on delivery. No hidden fees. No "scope creep" charges.
No "in today's fast-paced world." No "elevate your brand." No "look no further." If a draft sounds like a robot wrote it, it's not done yet. I edit until the writing reads like a real person — your kind of person.
Most small projects deliver inside 7-14 days. You'll always know where the project stands and when to expect the next deliverable. No ghosting, no missed deadlines, no needing to chase me down for an update.
"The best small business writing isn't clever. It's clear, specific, and sounds like someone you'd actually trust with your money."
